Western Massachusetts Farm House Renovation

Western Massachusetts Farm House Renovation

Western Massachusetts Farm House Renovation

The renovation of a 19th Century farm house started with some constraints; the footprint of the home had to be adhered to, although some additions, including a new garage, with a second floor, were allowed on the property. My clients were interested in using reclaimed building materials where possible, as well as mixing vintage furnishings with new ones. The exterior style of the home, including trefoil detailing, was maintained. The interior needed complete updating, and my clients’ style combined elements from Arts and Crafts, Victorian, and the Aesthetic Movement as well as items from their extensive traveling. Color and pattern were important to my clients, and given their travels, they gravitated toward historic as well as whimsical fabrics and wallpapers. Sourcing furnishings from the Boston Design Center, as well as locally to Western Massachusetts, and using local artisans to complete everything from one-of-a-kind furniture pieces to stained glass and decorative painting has given their home the eclectic sensibility that they were looking for.

Hill Town Kitchen and Baths Remodel

The kitchen and baths in this well-built 1990s home in one of Western Massachusetts’ hill towns had not been updated. A new owner purchased the house, and was ready to make the house his own! The kitchen’s well-organized footprint was mostly maintained, adding new cabinetry, appliances, fixtures, finishes (including new tile flooring and backsplash).

The half bath off the kitchen’s footprint was also maintained for the most part, adding new fixtures, finishes (including wallpaper) and bringing the flooring from the kitchen into the bath.

The primary bath took two back-to-back dated upstairs baths and created one large primary bath, with a large tiled walk-in shower and freestanding bathtub, in addition to the new fixtures, vanity with tile backsplash, and more.

Fixtures, finishes and tile (with their varying colors and textures) were chosen to create a connection with the open spaces nearby, highlighting stone and sky.
