On this, one of the coldest days of this snowy, New England winter, I wanted to focus on something warm: lighting!
I wrote a blog post a while back, on Mid-Century floor lamps: https://www.kdzdesigns.com2012/06/mad-men-and-lighting/
What about other styles, too? Depending on your interiors, you can mix in 1920’s harkening back to Victorian (if you’re game for fringes) to vintage and contemporary versions of Industrial styles to sleek LED options. Or are you trying to bring out your inner animal, with antlers, or an entire horse, if money is no object?!
Of all portable lighting, I find floor lamps are the most versatile. Easily moveable, they provide great task lighting and offer sparkle! If the floor lamps are torchieres, they can provide ambient light by uplighting ceilings and walls.
Place floor lamps behind accent tables, near chairs or sofas. While I use table lamps on consoles or larger tables, if you have smaller accent tables, placing a floor lamp nearby allows you to use the table-top fully.
